The awesomebar disappearing is nice because it makes space for web content, especially on phones, but making it appear again requires panning. Often, that's just fine, but I've found it very irritating several times when panning also means I'm losing where I was in the current page.
After having used windows 8 with a touchscreen for the first time last week, I'd say a gesture like the one used to make the right sidebar appear on windows 8 would be nice. That is, touching the screen from the very top of the screen and sliding downwards could bring the awesomebar back without panning the web content. But that's just a suggestion based on my recent use of windows 8. There are probably other things that could be done, but I do think it's necessary to have a way to make the awesomebar appear *without* moving web content.
