I think we need some UX input on whether that's desired. Ryan, John, any opinion about this?

Hi Tim, the new menu item is fixed for now much like the customize button is. This was discussed with Madhava. It may change in future when we offer more than syncing.

I still think it's weird to have an item that takes so much place in the menu and provides nothing more than just being able to sign in. The rationale of the new menu was to make the user able to control what is in it. Also see bug 966703
