User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:10.0.2) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/10.0.2 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20120215223356

Steps to reproduce:

Good morning, we have an issue with Thunderbird 24.1.0, lightning 2.6.2, horde (H4) and kronolith. When i receive an event in Thunderbird, and this event in lightning is not syncronize with kronolith in server via ICAL give us a CRASH called Modification_Failed when we open this event many times, and then the calendar goes to "read only". We are reproduce this error in all computers with windows xp, windows 7 and ubuntu for example. No logs about the problem are created on Server, nothing in Event Viewer...
There is no problem if a try with funambol + lightning but is not a solution for my bussines because funambol is no longer available in thunderbird 24 for calendars.

If you need more info please tell me and i will try to answer asap!!
Thanks.

It would be good to file such bugs in the calendar product https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=Calendar
Component: Untriaged → General

Philipp: Bug is reported for Windows, and marked as duplicate of a Linux issue?
Indeed, its probably not that issue. But I think its one of those other issues we had between 2.6 and 2.6.4. Alvaro, if this is still a problem:

Could you enable calendar.debug.log and calendar.debug.log.verbose in the advanced config editor (Options > Advanced > General > Config Editor) and show us some logs about what is happening when you do this?
Hi guys!

Thanks for the response.

Philipp i've activated this logs and force the error, but i don't know where are these logs... have i to do anything else? like execute thunderbird with any parameter...

Regards.
I think the log output is in the "error console". If yes, this is the result.

Hello. I found this doing a google search for "Lightning 2.6.4 Modification_Failed"

First, THANK YOU for this extension! It works great and is most appreciated.

I am having a problem with syncing to Google and get the Modification_Failed error. I am using Windows 7 and Thunderbird 24.4.0.

Please let me know if there is any more information you need to help.

-Melissa
this is still happening...and at the worst time for me!
I was just forced to re-install Windows (sigh) and have again downloaded & installed Thunderbird, and Lightning. I'm now running Thunderbird 24.4.0, and Lightning 2.6.4 on Windows 7 SP1. I'm able to display Google calendar events but not add new ones even though I'm using Google's "Private URL" and have explicitly shard the calendar with myself. When I try to insert an event an error is reported and Lightning makes the calendar read-only. Here is the log entry:

[calICSCalendar] Commencing write of ICS Calendar Mike
[calICSCalendar] Writing ICS File https://www.google.com/calendar/ical/mageorge2%40gmail.com/private-41635a9ad2694e7d5cf393e8a0f3b344/basic.ics

If I have something wrong please explain. This worked like a champ before my system crashed and I have become quite dependent on it so I desperately need to get it working again asap. Thanks.
Hello all,

I had a similar problem as above, but the log was different and explicitly stated the error cause, reminder too "early".

The error was:

[JavaScript Warning: "There has been an error reading data for calendar: XXXX. However, this error is believed to be minor, so the program will attempt to continue. Error code: 0x80040111. Description: A request Error Occurred. Status Code: 400 Bad Request Body: Illegal gd:reminder method or time specified: 2505600 seconds"]

I knew what the event was I changed the time of the reminder (in days I got to 28 days, 29 made it spit the error).

This is while syncing the calendar with google, and the error seems to come from the server.

Versions:
* Thunderbird 24.5.0
* Lightning 2.6.5
* Provider for google calendar 0.25

Am also using Lightbird 0.3.1, but I don't think it is related.

HTH
pbrandao, your specific issue is separate: Google does not allow reminders that don't match the settings in their dropdown in the web ui. Specifically, reminders more than 4 weeks (?) before the event will cause this message.
Thanks for the tip.

1 Exported my google calender to computer
2 Edited the file and searched for strange Reminders:
3 Found this one:
   TRIGGER;VALUE=DURATION:P17DT12H16M
   Normal values are like: TRIGGER;VALUE=DURATION:-PT30M (means 30 min before)
4 Edited the corresponding calendar entry reminder in thunderbird
5 Synced calendar
-> No ERROR anymore :)

Would be good if the error message would show the title of the calendar entry, which cause the sync error
Hi,
I got the same error, but in my case it is caused by accidentally entering an invalid date for an event when trying to convert an email to an event. Somehow the event is stuck in a queue, and TB tries to add it to the calendar periodically and issues a dialog box reporting that it could not do it:
"An error occurred when writing to the calendar Travel! Details: Modification failed".
When I look at the error console's messages, I can see the same message as above.
Any help would be appreciated. In particular, does anyone know how to get rid of this event which is in the limbo now?
Cheers,
  Csaba
