(Whiteboard: [bugday-20140217])

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:26.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/26.0 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20131205075310

Steps to reproduce:

Turn "Check Spelling While I Type" setting to "unchecked" in advanced settings tab.

Actual results:

Go to google.com, start typing. Words are immediately underlined with red squiggles. Fields are still spell checked. I still have the option to add words to dictionary from the search field.

Expected results:

Nothing should be spell checked. Those little red squiggles hurt my eyes, I never want to see them again. I don't use dictionaries or spellcheck in Firefox, but they won't go away.
There is still a "Check Spelling" item in the menu, which overrides the global setting.

What menu? Please be very descriptive about how I should go about turning spellcheck completely, completely off, please.

Automatic spellchecking is disabled globally as you've indicated in the description of this report:
https://support.mozilla.org/kb/how-do-i-use-firefox-spell-checker

Regardless of the above, you can manually enable spellchecking by right-clicking a textarea element — like the comment box on this page — and check “Check Spelling” in the context menu that pops up. This only persists until the page is reloaded, or you navigate to a different page.

If you still see misspelled words underlined in red, even though neither of the aforementioned spellchecking options is enabled, please test the latest version of Firefox in a brand new profile, then report back if you still see the issue.

I'm sorry, but the issue persists. I have no interest in anything that will "enable" spellcheck on any field. My problem is that I want spellcheck to be DISABLED COMPLETELY. I want the option of "NO RED SQUIGGLES ANYWHERE FOR ANY REASON". Maybe I'm not being clear enough?

I have already indicated that the spellcheck option is in the "disabled" state and I'm still seein red squiggles immediately, first thing when I type words into google. That's why I'm filing BUG REPORT, because there is a BUG!!! The global option to disable spellcheck DOESN'T WORK. Someone should FIX IT!!!

You said the option is disabled in the Options tab, Advanced category. You still haven't made it clear if the option is disabled in the textarea context menu. Right-click the box you're typing into. If “Check Spelling” is enabled there, click it to disable it.

Once again, if that doesn't solve the issue,

So what I'm hearing is that you will not even entertain the idea of actually giving me the feature I want, which is to be able to GLOBALLY TURN OFF SPELLCHECK ON EVERY PAGE AND EVERY CONTEXT MENU. You are suggesting that instead, I should just turn off spellcheck on every context menu on every page I visit. I'm sorry, but I don't feel that my concerns are being heard or understood at all here. I'd like someone else to handle this bug report.

That option already exists: it's under Options/Preferences → Advanced → General. Why it doesn't work for you is what I'm trying to determine, which isn't going to happen if you keep refusing to cooperate.

I did no such thing. I've repeatedly asked whether the context menu option is enabled, and you've inexplicably refused to answer. You also haven't performed the requested follow-up troubleshooting step of starting in a brand new profile. At this point, the only likely outcome is this report being marked Incomplete.
confirmed still present in Firefox 43. Spellchecking cannot be completely turned off. Red squiggles still appear in google search box.
It seems ridiculous that such a basic feature is still not supported correctly. Off means off, guys. No means no. There should be an option to DISABLE ALL SPELLCHECKING EVERYWHERE.
I also agree that this issue should be assigned to someone who is not going to just berate and ignore the user who filed the bug report.
