Details

Bug 960426 for the Network Information API will allow a better indication of network type and availability. When that API becomes available, then we could use this to improve email's battery usage when periodic sync is in play:

On the alarm startup, html_cache_restore can check for connection type of 'none' and then just stop the rest of the startup process, reset the alarm, and quit.

While a connection type other than 'none' may still not be usable, at least in the case when we know the connection is not there, we can save some work.
