Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:27.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/27.0 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20140127194636

Steps to reproduce:

I have a Windows 7 Professional 64-bit laptop.

Instead of shutting down my laptop when not using it, I close the lid. If the lid is only closed for a short time, when I open the computer back up it will resume operation immediately. In this case, I believe the computer is sleeping. If I leave the lid closed for a while, the next time I open the computer I will get a screen stating "Resuming Windows" before a return to normal operation. I believe this second instance is because the computer went into hibernation.

Actual results:

After my computer resumes from hibernation (the second state), Firefox (which I leave open) will not respond. I cannot open new web pages, I cannot reload current web pages. I can use the buttons, links, tabs, and menus of Firefox, but it appears to be unable to access the internet. When I select "Exit", the Firefox windows close.

However, after this happens I cannot start Firefox again. I have to go into my Task Manager, where I can see that Firefox is still using several hundred megabytes of RAM. I then have to end the process. Once the process has ended, I can then start Firefox again and it will work properly.

This happens every time that my computer hibernates.

Expected results:

Prior to Firefox build 26, I did not have this issue. But in build 26 and 27 this is a problem. Firefox should resume normal usage after hibernation and when I close Firefox, it should not remain in memory and need to be closed in the Task Manager.
FYI, is there any way to change my email associated with this bug? I would like replies to go to another email address.

re: email change, nevermind, I was able to change my email.
Does it also happen in the Firefox safemode ?

The safemode will disable graphic hardware acceleration and this could be the culprit in your case.
I have hardware acceleration disabled and the problem persists. I originally found a similar post on an older build of Firefox which suggested disabling hardware acceleration which is why it has been disabled, but the problem is still there.

I have not yet tried starting Firefox in safe mode and then putting the computer in hibernation. I will try that several times and post the results.
Do you have extensions installed ?
This will be difficult to fix unless we can not reproduce this.
I hibernate my windows7 system several times every day and never had this issue.
I have the same problem, which persists despite disabling all extensions. Furthermore, when I try to close the program, either through the Task Mgr or normally, I get a crash message. Firefox is notified, not that anything is done about it.
Jay, please post a crash ID https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/How_to_get_a_stacktrace_for_a_bug_report (in a separate bug).

Hello,

I am sorry I did not post this response earlier. I found, via starting in safemode that it was one of my add-ons in Firefox that was giving me the issue. Through trial and error I was able to find the offending add-on and remove it. Unfortunately I cannot remember which it was at this point, but I did find in the comments for the add-on that other people were having the same issue.
Excellent! Great to know the problem is fixed for you!
