I know it's not directly Australis-related nor new, but I think it should be reconsidered now especially with the new star animation. The rationale here is that the star goes directly into a menu that wasn't so prominent before (but is even animated now). When the user clicks the menu though he doesn't see the newly bookmarked item. I really think (as with the crtl+D shortcut) that the bookmark should go into the menu and not into a sub folder (for now "unsorted bookmarks"). This is probably a dupe of a more ancient bug, but I opened this one directly in relation with the bookmark animation.

I think UX team input would be good here as a first step.

I think a significant portion of people only star things, and would be annoyed if their main bookmarks menu got cluttered up with all of that, especially as that'd also have perf consequences (ie opening the bookmarks menu would be slow). Making them all manually organize their bookmarks doesn't seem like a good tradeoff.

I still think it's better than having your bookmarks in an hidden place. I've seen a lot of friends that had bookmarks in "unsorted bookmarks" without even knowing it. FWIW Google Chrome default bookmarks destination is directly the bookmarks toolbar.
the last thing I heard about was that we were evaluating to inline the 5 most recently bookmarked entries into the menu, so that at least the last bookmarks were directly visible. At least until we have a proper bookmarks interaction redesign.
Marco is right. Inlining the recent bookmarks would help, but it would still be a band aid.
Sooner or later we'll need to rethink the information architecture of bookmarks in general.
Marco, do you know if there is a bug about inlining recent bookmarks?

I don't think so, I surely discussed that in person with some UX members, but I can't recall a bug about that.

If that idea is implemented, please make it possible to disable via about:config
not tracking this for Australis seems like the best thing to here, because the discussion touches a subject not at all introduced by Australis.

Whether the new star animation can be seen as a topic to jumpstart this discussion is quite subjective.

Agreed, not tracking for Australis (did that get cleared accidentally?).

This seems to be mainly fixed by the new "last five recent bookmarks" in bookmarks menu.
