User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.0; rv:26.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/26.0 (Beta/Release) Build ID: 20131205075310 Steps to reproduce: When trying to check the installed plugins for update, I see there are two versions of the Shockwave Flash Plugin. I tried to turn off the older version of the plugin via choosing the option "Never turn on". Also I tried to update the plugin several times (to the newer version). Actual results: When I tried to turn off the plugin (older version), the newer version of the plugin would turn off too. When I tried to update the plugin, the newer version of the plugin would update to the version I expected, and the older version would stay there in the list of plugins hinting that it is vulnerable and should be updated. Expected results: The expected result is that the plugin should be updated without leaving the older verion of it in the list, hinting of its vulnerability to the user.

This is mostly a duplicate of bug 891351: because Flash and other major plugins now update without requiring a browser restart, we do actually have both of them potentially loaded into the browser at the same time. Normally Flash will delete the old version on next reboot of Windows. But in the meantime, it is correct to show both. For new plugin instances we will use whichever one has the newest version number.

Such situation has already passed several reboots of Windows, several versions of Firefox and several updates of Flash player before I finally decided to report it. That is why I probably do not think that one more browser or Windows restart can help.
Yep, maybe this helps - what can be found out of about:plugins section: the newer version of Flash dll (12.0.0.44) is here: C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash\NPSWF32_12_0_0_44.dll and the older version (9.0.45.0) is here: C:\Windows\system32\NPSWF32.dll So, can we assume that the piece of software that makes the plugin list has "forgotten" about the old path?
Thanks, Inga! This helps. The Flash Player installer/uninstaller is responsible for removing old versions from the system. You may want to file this bug directly with Adobe in their bug base [1]. [1] https://bugbase.adobe.com/
Thanks, I reported a bug to Adobe.
