User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.2; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/32.0.1700.107 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce: # Verify mail.chats.enabled=false # Save an email as *.eml # Reopen newly saved *.eml file Actual results: The email opens in a new TB Window. However, the "CHATS" button in the Mail Toolbar and Tools > Chat Status / Tools > Join Chats on the Menu Bar remain visible, only in the new TB Window containing only the saved *.eml Expected results: On the main (tabbed) window, these buttons are hidden. It should be the same on the newly spawned *.eml window.
This is also on version 24.3.0, Windows
Component: Untriaged → Instant Messaging

https://searchfox.org/comm-central/rev/534a966e11fc09f05ff11aba4bb3e65e881ae22d/mail/components/im/content/chat-messenger.js#1659-1680 is what's supposed to hide the chat related buttons from the UI. From what I can tell this part of code should be run for any window that the file is loaded in (it listens for the load event of the window). In conclusion this might no longer be an issue.

Still applicable in 91.1.1 x64, Windows.

The Chat Toolbar Button ("Show the Chat tab") and Tools > Chat Status > (all options) and Tools > Join Chats (grayed out) are still visible.

The Button switches focus to the main TB Inbox window, and the Menu options do nothing, so mail.chats.enabled=false still functionally disables the Instant Messaging functionality (as desired). This is mostly just cosmetic.

Incidentally, opening any Account Settings view (selecting either the root-most configured Account or Local Folders at the top of the hierarchy in the main TB Inbox window) also displays "Chat" as an option for "Set Up Another Account." This then launches the Chat Account Wizard, even though the functionality should be disabled.

Severity: normal → S3
