We often get bugs in the Skia backend that need bisecting or fixing. With the overhead of Gecko these can take a hundred times longer than they should. Let's work towards creating a standalone test harness that we can use to test and debug Skia properly.
Is standalone moz2d not sufficient for this? That has the benefit of having a recorder so we can record a broken testcase in gecko, and then debug it on a standalone app. It's also pretty much done, so less work.
I think we need more details here :) Between Moz2D and Skia's tests, where does this fit into the picture?
Moz2D should be enough, but for <canvas> we'd need to do some minor work to hook up the recorder, I think? Last I checked, that was only working for content rendering, but obviously shouldn't be too difficult.
Yeah, I was thinking of reusing moz2d standalone in the long term, with moz2d's unit test framework. Currently none of that works on b2g afaik, and there's no easy way to dump recordings from the browser, but if we had both of these things it'd make regressions much easier to find and fix.
Mass closing as we are no longer working on b2g/firefox os.
