Trying to fix newport-news.com shopping site's navigation bar layout bugs led me
to mess with the max element width of images in the table cells, but it turned
out to be a problem with COLSPAN instead. I'll attach a reduced testcase

Chris, see bugscape bug 7313 - that is what started me on this, and eventually
led to regressions reported in bug 97619 (by way of a fix in bug 32191)

With the 2nd patch in bug 97619, this is wfm. The td with the colspan and the 5
images has no width specified so the images will not get wrapped.
