Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.8; rv:27.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/27.0 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20140212131424

Steps to reproduce:

(I'm using version Thunderbird 24.3.0 on MacOS 10.8.5)

Open Terminal, with a new command window. Type:
  /Applications/Thunderbird.app/Contents/MacOS/thunderbird -remote

(you can follow that with any other options you'd like)

Actual results:

A window titled "Close Thunderbird" appears.

Expected results:

The command line documentation for Mozilla states that there is a "-remote" option tpo"Execute remote_command in an already running application process". This option doesn't work in MacOS (I'm using version 24.3.0). It doesn't appear as an option when using command line help.

This appears to work in other OSes as minor bugs have been logged for it (see 351863 and 876412).

Having to quite Thunderbird any time I'd like to send it command, makes the command line options pretty useless.
