User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:28.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/28.0 (Beta/Release) Build ID: 20140212005842 Steps to reproduce: Signed up for MDN account months (or was it years) ago. Actual results: Without clearly telling me, it set my username to email, so it is visible on bottom of the page, eg https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Firefox/Releases/27 Expected results: It should warn about this, and have an option to reset username. Please set my username to Luke, not Luke32j(at)(msn)(DOT)(com) so I can edit without putting email in plaintext everywhere.

Why is this "unconfirmed"? I'd like to help fix some of the MDN documentation, but not if I get spammed for it.

Luke, by default, bugs reported by regular bugzilla users are set to 'UNCONFIRMED'. The two other people on this bugs didn't changed this to, as they merely triaged the bug to put it at the right place (so people able to solve it can see it. My opinion is: 1. We should prevent account with a @ to be created. This will prevent this problem to happen again 2. We should _not_ allow people to change their user account by themselves: other editors rely on it to know who did what. Changing it is very disturbing. 3. Admins should be able to use the admin panels to change it when their are good reasons (like here). :groovecoder : is 3 possible? (It looks like it is, I just didn't dare to press 'Save'). If so, I will happily change this username (and future similar problems) and open a bug for point 1.

3 is possible. I've done it before and it doesn't break anything. But I agree - only admins should change usernames when there are good reasons.

In fact I just used it in another bug. I've sent an e-mail to luke32j to check if it is the same person (e-mail is different). If so, I will proceed, then close this bug. I'm also opening a bug to prevent @ to be used in username.
Confirmation e-mail received thank you. Unfortunately Luke is already taken, so I couldn't proceed. Please propose another name (LukeB, Luke32j, …)
