Composer "Advanced Edit" should show Description, Syntax and Example "Values" in
Dropdown List or in Help Text.

Composer is often used by beginner or casual web page designers who have a
little but not firm knowledge of html syntax. Even advanced users appreciate if
a program shows which values or syntax are exprected for a given field (e.g., M$
Access coding).

It would make Composer far more accessible to many users and would drastically
expand the "sophistication" of Composer.

At a minimum, the help text should include:

1. A brief description/definition of the Attribute

2. The proper syntax of the Attribute.

3. Up to five *different* examples of its use.

It could look like this (for "href"):
*****************************************************
Description: href is used to create a "link" to another webpage or
another part of the current page. When this link is clicked,
the browser goes to the location that is defined under "Value".

Syntax: url

Examples: http://www.mozilla.org (goes to another webpage)
my_other_page.htm (goes to a page in your domain)
??? (goes to another webpage, but opens a new browser window)
*****************************************************

I'm not sure how to best implement this UI-wise. Here are some suggestions how
the help could be activated to get the ball rolling:

1. Select an Attribute from dropdown list. Now right-click on either Attribute
or Value and get a tooltip (closes on click) with help for the selected feature.
2. Select an Attribute from dropdown list. Now "Value" has a dropdown beginning
with the Description and syntax (non-selectable), and then a list of examples or
available values.

3. With curser/selection on either Attribute or Value, pressing F1 or the "Help"
button brings up Mozilla Help to the location that contains the above
information (*not* general help on "Using the Advanced Property Editor").

4. ???

I think this idea will greatly improve the "skill" of any web designer. I have
read books on HTML web page design (OK, "HTML for Dummies"), but I could never
remember most of the syntax and possibilities of HTML and Javascript. With this
help system, I could be creating far more sophisticated web pages with much less
effort.

All it would take is for someone with HTML and Javascript (and "inline styple" -
whatever that is) experience to "fill in the blanks for the 29 items in the
dropdown lists (copy paste from some "how to use HTML web page?).

Sorry for the long bug report, but I think this could give Composer a major
boost into the realm of "very powerful web page composer" :)
->Editor for further triaging.

This bug report is registered in the SeaMonkey product, but still has no comment since the inception of the SeaMonkey project 5 years ago.

Because of this, we're resolving the bug as EXPIRED.

If you still can reproduce the bug on SeaMonkey 2 or otherwise think it's still valid, please REOPEN it and if it is a platform or toolkit issue, move it to the according component.
