Steps to reproduce:

1. enter a single word (for example "hello") in the location bar
==> it takes about 18 seconds to launch a web search

2. enter several words (for example "hello world") in the location bar
==> it "immediately" launch a web search




Actual results:

single word in location bar takes 18+ seconds to launch a web search


Expected results:

Single word in location bar should launch a web search "immediately", as it does for several words in location bar.

It used to work fine in the past. 
I am using FF27.0.1, and this delay appeared in FF27, or maybe in FF26 IIRC.
Philipp, we talked about this in Toronto, did you end up filing a bug?

I didn't, but this should get fixed alongside bug 958181.

I just got FF28 it seems to be fixed.

I want to withdraw my comment #3, for some reason it does not work anymore... it started again to take about 18-20 seconds to launch a web search. I have absolutely no idea why.

I can't see any differences between searching for one or more words in the location bar, with latest Nightly on Ubuntu 13.10 x86.

Could you please try the following :

1) try this with a clean profile: http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles

2) running in Safe mode: http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode

It is event worse, it takes about 45 seconds to launch a web search (with 'hello')

It does not work either, about 20 seconds to launch a web search
That's clearly not a new issue. I can reproduce.
Dupe of 972452.
Added comments to bug 972452 and nominated it for backlog, along with a proposed solution to improve the common case (without totally breaking current behaviour)
