Now we take a picture when focus fails (bug 985077) but we still show a red focus ring. This can be interpreted as an error or that the picture hasn't been taken.

The shutter sound makes it pretty clear that a picture was taken, no?

Hi Diego, 

I think it's fine as is since Wilson also included a quick fade out when an image is captured so the user would still know that the image was captured on top of having the capture sound. 

I think it's still good to keep the focus ring in red since it failed to focus but an image was still captured.

I agree with Amy. The purpose of the ring is to provide feedback to the user about the clarity of the picture - ie is it in focus or not. That is where the possible error lies, not whether the photo was captured but whether it was in focus or not. 

There are other cues to alert the user that a photo was taken - such as the shutter noise (which could be turned down or off), the fade/blink in the viewfinder, and also the preview icon updates with a thumbnail of the last photo.

The user is going to expect a photo to be taken when they press the shutter button, if we reliably do that every single time then there will be no confusion over what happens when the shutter button is tapped. The red focus ring will not be associated with the failure to capture a photo.
