Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:28.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/28.0 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20140314220517

Steps to reproduce:

Just after having installed Firefox 28.0 (having ticked "launch Firefox"), on the first execution of FF, tried to make a search on Google using the search bar (top right field).
I wrote some text then I pressed on Enter.
I also tried clicking on the magnifying glass.
I tried the other search engines also (Google, Yahoo, Bing...).
I tried opening a new tab.

Actual results:

In all cases the page of search engine is not opened. The current tab is not updated. Nothing occurs actually.
After having closed FF then reopened it, the search bar is now functional.

Expected results:

Pressing enter in the search bar or clicking on the magnifying glass must update the content of the current tab with the results of the query on the webpage corresponding to the search engine.
Component: Untriaged → Search
I was unable to reproduce this issue with latest Nightly 31.0a1 on Windows XP x86.

Could you please try with a clean profile: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles ?

Also, you can try this by running in Safe mode: http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode .
