Immediately after flashing, there's an annoying overlay over the first FTE screen, if you need to toggle the sreen backlight on or off (e.g. due to timeout).

An overlay bar does not appear at the top of the screen immediately after taking the phone out of standby during the FTU.

I saw the issue on the 3/27/2014 1.5 build

1.5 Environmental Variables:

In comparison, the 1.4 build in comment 2 has no bar overlay appearing when taking the phone out of standby during the FTU.

On the 1.5 build above, the bar overlay is clearly visible when coming out of standby.

Does this only happen coming out of idle from the FTE? Or can this happen coming out of idle in any possible case?

I was able to reproduce this issue in the Video app as well with Screen lock set to disabled.
