User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:30.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/30.0 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20140328004001

Steps to reproduce:

1: Drag 'URL' from addressbar (location, navigation bar)
2: Drop 'URL' in a Sub-Folder of the Bookmarks Toolbar (personalbar)

Actual results:

1: a 'line' is left as a 'place holder' (see screenshot)
2a: No bookmark, url, favicon, text of any kind is in sub-folder
2b: I checked using the Bookmarks 'Library' . No bookmark added (see screenshot)
3: Navigate back to Bookmarks Toolbar > Sub-Folder and line remains (see screenshot)
4: I searched Bookmarks 'Library' for page title incase it was added to unsorted or something else.

Expected results:

1: bookmark (favicon, page title (discription) url) should be added, somewhere.
this is the Bookmarks 'Library'.
the cursor is in the location of the mystery line at the location I dropped the url.
No bookmark for Stack-Overflow page I dropped.

'blue line' at location i dropped url as bookmark.

'blue line' 10% of width, on left, under 'float' bookmark. this is at the position i dropped the url, It remains after navigating away and returning, repeatedly.
Attachment #8398588 - Attachment description: FF-Aurora-30_Drag-URL-to-Bookmarks-sub-folder_Only-line-is left_No-BM_28.03.14-01.png → 'blue line' at location i dropped url as bookmark.
After Restarting FF, the 'blue line' is gone and the Bookmark does Not exist.

ALSO... I tried drag and drop BM on the Sub-Folder (to be added to the bottom of list), instead of dragging to a specific position. This method did Not work either. No bookmark.
Adding Add-On 'Sidebars List' (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/sidebars-list/) which usually allows me to drag a 'bookmark' (url) to a position in Bookmarks Toolbar, Sidebar does Not work either (No bookmark is added on drag release (of mouse button)).

If I Right-Click on page > 'Bookmark This Page' Nothing happens. No dialog 'pop-up'.
Does this happen every time you drag a url into the folder in the bookmarks toolbar? (possibly related to bug 977572)
Flags: needinfo?(landis)
1: I tried to Right-Click on a Tab and 'Bookmark All Tabs'
2: 'New' dialog popped up, but.. Unable to 'Choose' a target location.
3: 'Cancel' button does not work either. Have to use 'x' window close

4: Right-Click on page > bookmark page does Nothing. No pop-up dialog.

Yes. Every Time. I've shut down and restarted. Still unable to save BM using Any method.

Landis.
Can you reproduce this in a new profile? If not, can you check if you can reproduce this if you restart with add-ons disabled?
Flags: needinfo?(landis)
I will check Both condition you mention.

FYI. I am running openSuSE 12.3 and KDE 4.12.
This is the first time I've used Aurora Aurstralis in awhile. I've been using only Nightly 'central'.
So, this morning I updated Aurora 29 to 30 and this is what is happening.

Gijs, with a bare-bones (new) profile:
1: show Bookmarks Toolbar
2: create 'test folder'
3: drag and drop this url to 'test folder' and bookmark is created.

Gijs, I repeated above using original profile, but Restart With Add-Ons Disabled (Safe Mode).
Can Not Drag and Drop Bookmark.

I tried Right-Click page > Bookmark this page...
Dialog comes up this time and it looks as if the page is already bookmarked, listing a sub-folder, but I can't find it anywhere... See ScreenShot...

Landis.
I just did a search in Bookmarks 'Library' and this page appears Twice..
Without add-on, I don't know where, what folder they are in.

It maybe that the sub-folder I dragged the url to, is Not scrolling, so I don't see it at the bottom of the list, as the 'list window' (bookmark toolbar - folder - sub-folder) is Not scrolling.

Landis.
Additional Info:
This is brand new, and was Not a problem an hour ago, but my folder icons are Not visible in the BM Toolbar, folders, sub-folders. (no folder icon, but there are favicons)

I am still in 'Safe Mode' so no userChrome.css in play.

Landis.
So, I'm in Nightly 'central' 31 now.
I searched BM Library and with Add-On 'show parent folder' I see that both instances of this page BM are in the right folder...

But, again, I can not see them in the BM toolbar, folder view.

This leads me to my original problem with Aurora which started with Australis and that is it Corrupts My Bookmarks, specifically places.sqlite Every Other Day... That is why I have NOT been using it.

I had to go to great lengths to ensure Aurstralis did Not mess up my places... I have cron and bash scripts to copy of and make copies of my profile every day and every time I start Australis Because this is what it was doing. Every damn time..

I should have known better than to trust Australis...

My Aurora 28 works fine, but slow and Nightly 31 works without corrupting my places over the last 2 months... The first time I use Australis and touch my places db... Corrupt Again!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a POS!

Landis.
I am Convinced the problem is the way Aurstralis is 'trying' to backup the places file....
It has Failed EVERY TIME since this UI was introduce mid-way of Aurora 28..

Nightly does Not do this to my places.sqlite. Aurora 28 does not do this... Only Aurora, Australis.

Nightly 31 also has the Australis theme - the bookmarks issues are unrelated to the theme. It sounds like we introduced a bug that affected your bookmarks backups/copies and then it got fixed in 31. Perhaps the best idea is to just keep using 31 for now. I'm not sure what is causing the issues in 29/30 but if it's already fixed in 31 then it's unlikely we're going to get very far trying to figure out what's up in 30. Because we don't know what the problem is, exactly, I'm going to mark this as incomplete. Thank you for using pre-release versions and reporting issues to us!

What ever FF is doing to my places.sqlite, it's been the same problem for the last few months.
When it corrupts the file, the file (places.sqlite) goes from 60MB to 80MB. Repeatedly.

I've replaced the corrupt 80MB places with yesterdays 60MB and now one from 2 days ago.
Since I started this report I've 'Lost' my folder icons. I have favicons in my BMs but not folder icons.

That is why I've restored a 2 day old places, trying to make sure it's not the places.sqlite file that is the problem with the icons...

I can see that they are the same theme (UI)... I just like complaining about Aurora, because that is where I first noticed the 'new' UI...

I've been having this corruption of places db for as long as I can remember, and it Never gets fixed.

Thanks for your time...
Landis.
Gijs... What to do? EVERY TIME Australis touches a 60MB places.sqlite it corrupts it and the file becomes 80MB and looses the last many days of entries...

Every Time since Aurora became Australis...

This does NOT happen with Nightly with same Australis UI

Landis.
folder-icon issue...
System Settings > bumped my Gtk icon themes and that 'restored' my folder icons in Firefox.
