For the last several stable version of mozilla, I've noticed that the main entries in bookmarks have disappeared (ie deleted). Subdirectories and their contents are still there. I have not been able to determine exactly when this happens. However, I would say it happens when mozilla is closed. Perhaps when the X server dies?
Reporter, please try a recent nightly build and see if you can reproduce this bahaviour. Such a nightly build can be downloaded from http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly/latest-trunk/. Also move your ~./.mozilla directory to a safe place and start with a new profile.
Ok, I just downloaded and installed build id:2001090906 nightly build. With mozilla running, kill the X-server, restart X, start mozilla... no top entries in the bookmarks. XFree86 Version 4.1.0 / X Window System (protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6510) Release Date: 2 June 2001

mass reassign of pchen bookmark bugs to ben

do you still see this problem with the latest round after bookmarks-outliner?
I'm using Mozilla 0.9.5+ Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:0.9.5+) Gecko/20011029 and this bug still happens. Kill the X-server while mozilla is running and I lost all the directories and non-directories in the Bookmarks EXCEPT for 3 directories and their entires. I'll try and download a new nightly build soon.
OK, I downloaded Mozilla 0.9.8+ Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:0.9.8+) Gecko/20020129 and it appears to fix the bookmark bug. Txs.
