Part of why Firefox doesn't feel as fast as it could is that it waits quite a long time on startup before showing a window. To shorten that time span, we should investigate showing an image of the UI before the actual UI is ready (perhaps using system-level capabilities to show that image, so that we don't have to wait for XULrunner to be ready). Ideally, that image would only contain basic UI (few/no strings etc.) so that users don't get tricked into interacting with it. iOS already does this very successfully. This is mostly an engineering breakdown bug, but I am happy to be the UX contact for it.
