I'm sure I've missed a nuance here, but why the focus on Silverlight?

It can be any one? We just thought Netflix was a good, popular example.
No concerns about Netflix, but why is the browser screen all about Silverlight?

The more obvious plugin would be Flash, but it is not blocked by default (I think?). Quicktime would be another popular plugin.
Hey guys - Shannon and I just talked to Chad and we're not going to use Netflix/Silverlight. Chad is going to send me a JS CTP and I'll post here when I have it :)

Im sorry to say but we (as an EU Comms team) don't agree that Netflix is the best example to use here. Netflix is not global - it is only available in North/South America, the Caribbean, United Kingdom, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Iceland, the Netherlands so a large part of mainland Europe (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland) is missing. Also, I'd suggest staying away from the Netflix example also because of the ongoing DRM/EME debate. Could we use something like YouTube instead? Thanks, Karolina

We could force YouTube, but it's not a great technology example, as Flash is not blocked by default, and YouTube often offers an HTML5 fall-back.
Hmm. I see what you mean. We thought of youtube as it's the best example of a player that resonates on a global scale. Netflix won't mean anything to the majority of our European audience. Would you have any other examples?

> Would you have any other examples?

I'm wondering if we should fake a simple screenshot - a mostly empty page, with nothing in the URL bar, and an "Activate Java Applet." string in the click-to-play box.
In the absence of a global player example, I'm thinking that is the best work-around. Good thinking and yes please. We can use the EN-US Netflix version in the UK (since we have Netflix here) and I guess the same is true of the pt-BR version for LatAm where Netflix also exists, but will need a 'fake' screenshot for French, Polish, Italian, German and Spanish, please. Many thanks!
Hey guys - we can't use Netflix at all. I'm going to ping Chad for the JavaScript CTP now - hold tight for a bit. Thanks!
Hi Steven and Karolina!

I talked to Chad and he suggested we use Google Earth as the CTP example. Let's give it a shot!

The Google Earth site has a lot of text outside of the plugin area. See the attached screenshot. There does appear to be a German version at google.de/earth, and this might be true for the other langs as well.
Another option to avoid all of the text on the Google Earth site would be to make the browser smaller and scroll so only the click-to-play box is visible. See attached screenshot.

Please advise if this or the attachment from comment #24 would be preferred for all locales.

Hey Steven! I just checked in with the necessary peeps and we were wondering if we could please do the second option of Google Earth and then have a generic "fake" CTP page to fall back on in case we can't use the Google Earth one.

You had mentioned doing that in an email - although it might be a little boring it will be safe. This is the perfect example: https://blog.mozilla.org/security/files/2012/10/ctp-in-action1.png

LMK what you think - I'd like to send the final shot to Tannie tomorrow so he can finalize the layout.

Thanks!
Lizz

Should the "doorhanger" item be open, as it is that that example shot? I haven't done that for the other examples attached here so far. Thanks.

No, it shouldn't be. So I guess this isn't the PERFECT example, but it's close :)

Hi Steven,

The Google Earth sites for the localised screenshots we need are:

http://www.google.de/earth/ (German)
http://www.google.it/earth/ (Italian)
http://www.google.pl/earth/ (Polish)
http://www.google.es/earth/ (Spanish)
http://www.google.fr/earth/ (French)
http://www.google.com.br/earth/ (Brazil)

Thanks,
Karolina
Ping for status update on this project. It's blocking the Reviewer's Guide printing job. Thanks!

Here are the screenshots for the localized Google Earth pages with the click-to-play box.

thanks for the localised ones, Steven, that's great and all we need from an EU perspective.
