Filing for Catalin. I noticed my battery life has take a bit of a hit with sync and asked for more testing with android battery life.
On Motorola Razr (Android 2.3) (had the device reset to factory settings):
Having Nightly installed and sync configured, I did some browsing for ~ 1 min (opened 5 new tabs and added 5 bookmarks) then left the device idle for 12 hours
Result:
Using sync 1.1 the battery dropped from 100% to 78%
Using sync 1.5 the battery dropped from 100% to 86%
On Samsung Galaxy Note (Android 4.0.4) (had the device reset to factory settings):
Same scenario as above.
Result:
Using sync 1.1 the battery dropped from 100% to 83%
Using sync 1.5 the battery dropped from 100% to 81%
On Samsung Motorola RAZR (Android 4.0.4) (the device was not reset to factory settings but I've killed all running apps before starting the test ):
Same scenario as above.
Result:
Using sync 1.1 the battery dropped from 100% to 84%
Using sync 1.5 the battery dropped from 100% to 72%

How many syncs happened during the time period in each case?
If you're leaving the device for 12 hours, we expect no syncs for Sync 1.1, and about 4 syncs for Sync 1.5, plus syncs as a result of browsing.

Catalin, not sure how to view the sync logs on android - could you find out how many syncs occur over a 12 hr idle period?

Leave the phone connected to a computer, grepping adb.
adb logcat -v time | fgrep "SyncAdapter" > log.txt
That'll include all top-level syncing activity for either account type.

Might be useful to run
adb shell dumpsys battery
at increments as well, can even script it

So, I've started grepping adb logcat -v time | fgrep "SyncAdapter", next I logged in in the sync account, did some browsing, then left the devices idle for 12 hours.

Aaron, can you repro this issue on your own phones. I'll try running a test tonight, it's my primary phone. I haven't baselined my phone with sync 1.1... which would help.

for 6 hrs, my phone sync'd 3 times initially, 1hr after, then 20 min after that, then stopped.
battery: 94% to 87%

Too inconclusive without knowing what processes are running, battery health etc. I don't think anything can be done here without having a controlled environment for testing this, having proper variables in place, etc, especially for mozilla-29.
