User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.2; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/33.0.1750.154 Safari/537.36
Steps to reproduce:
I have mozilla thunderbird open. The settings say i will have to get a notification message and sound notification when a new email arrives at both of my business accounts (using the email server of my website host). The accounts are info@semalyticsconsultancy.nl and blom@semalyticsconsultancy.nl.
Actual results:
When a new message arrives at one of my business accounts, i dont get the notifications. Not the sounds notification nor the message. My coworker who has access to the same email accounts, does get the notifications.
Expected results:
I should have gotten both the sounds notification and the message notification like my coworker. Slight note, i use windows 8 and my coworker uses windows 7. I also dont have any unread emails on both of my account. The only addon i use is the calender plugin (yes ive already tried booting thunderbird in safe mode without the addons).

> I also dont have any unread emails on both of my account.
In Tb, "new mail in IMAP" = Unread(no \Seen flag) mail whose UID is not known by Tb yet.
- \Recent flag is not usable for definition of "new mail in Tb", because \Recent is cleared if imap account is accessed
from multiple imap clients on multiple PCs.
- Majority of Tb users want no new mail alert at Tb if he read the mail on SmartPhone already,
even when the mail is new for Tb(unknown UID).
And, new mail alert in Tb is shown for the "new mail in Tb" only.
If you need new mail alert, please ask your coworker to keep Unread state even after he read mail.
\Seen(Read/Unread) is not only flag for marking mail. There are some imap flags useful for "marking mails".
- \Flag = called as Starred in Tb, as called by Gmail.
- user defned keyword(flag in imap) = called Tag in Tb.
If Search Folder(serch target=Inbox, marked as Starred or has TagX) is used, or if View(marked as Starred or has TagX) is used, you can see marked mail only.
If addon of "Extra folder column" is used, Total mail count is shown at folder pane. So, if you move already processed mail to other folder, "Total mail count of the Search Folder or View" can be used as indicator of "you need tp process mails".

Info,
Do you still see this problem when using version 38?
Possible mitigation measures:
1. at tools | options | general | play a sound, pick Use the following sound
file,, and pick some .wav file
2. at tools | options | general | select Show an alert, and also under
Customize mark one of the checkboxes and also increase "Show New Mail Alert
for" to some high value
3. turn on Windows visual notifications at Control Panel\All Control Panel
Items\Ease of Access Center\Use text or visual alternatives for sounds
