99164 - [MAC] Pages are saved as Internet Explorer documents and can't change file associations

Description

QA build 20010904 Netscape6/6.1b1

1. Launch Netscape.
2. Point to your File menu and click on Save As...
3. Save the page to your desktop for easy access.

Result:
The file is saved as an Internet Explorer document, and when double 
clicked on, Internet Explorer is launched.

Notes:
This has been tested on a G4 running OS 9.1, an iMac running OS 9.0.4, 
OS 9.1, and OS X in Classic mode.  Rebuilding the desktop and zapping 
the PRAM had no effect.  Using ResEdit, I observed the type code was 
properly saved as TEXT, but the creator code was indeed MSIE.  I 
changed the creator code to MOSS and the icon appeared as a Netscape 
doc.

Additionally, I installed Netscape® Navigator 4.08 and ran it side by side 
with this current QA build.  Netscape® Navigator 4.08 would save the 
same page properly that version 6.1 would save as an MSIE document.

I am sure I read this bug someplace before (on bugzilla [marked invalid] or the
newsgroups [thought of as invalid]). It was mentioned that the cause of this is
the fact the InternetConfig has the owner of *.html files as IE not Netscape 6.x
or Mozilla... and Netscape/Mozilla is just respecting these wishes. Could this
be the case here?

Reporter, you need to change your file associations so that mozilla opens html
files instead of IE. Marking invalid.

I reported this as a bug for the following reasons:

1. Netscape/Mozilla are the only browsers that I could find that let the Mac OS
control their file creator codes.

2. You cannot change "file associations" in the Mac OS as you can in windows. 
Once files are saved with the creator code MSIE, it will always be an Internet
Explorer document, until someone goes into each individual MSIE file and changes
the creator code.  This is true with any Mac OS program.

3. Previous versions of Netscape owned it's creator codes and asked users if
they wanted Netscape as the default browser.

4. Netscape/Mozilla doesn't give the user the opportunity to choose
Netscape/Mozilla as the default browser, thereby allowing the opportunity for
Netscape/Mozilla to change the system settings for them.

5. This will either generate tech support calls or the user will simply use
Internet explorer, whichever is easier.

This bug is invalid. The user's Internet Preferences File Mapping settings for HTML files 
are used  to set file and type information, and this is appropriate.
