(Whiteboard: [communications-v3])

We have a number of constituent groups in BSD. Let's talk with Andrea about how to smartly segment and communicate with them.
Michelle, can you assign an owner for this please?
Flags: needinfo?(michelle)
Assigning to Amira who I understand is looking into this with Andrea. Andrea and Lainie in cc.

* Thanks for taking this on Amira. Even just an etherpad listing the various segments that exist now would be a helpful start. Seems like we'll have a natural opportunity to potentially simplify a bit. And get clarity around the "Webmaker segment" of the larger list.

Summary: Review our BSD list segments with Andrea → Document our current Webmaker-related BSD list segments in an etherpad
What we're looking for:

1) Current Webmaker sign-up pages
Where do Webmaker email list sign-ups come from right now?

A complete list of pages/sign-up forms we're currently using to gather sign-ups to Webmaker. For example:
* webmaker.org/teach
* the new Webmaker training sign-up page
* last year's "Teach the Web" MOOC sign-ups
* opt-in on Webmaker account creation
* The Mozilla.org contribute page: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/contribute/

2) Segmentation
Clear understanding / documentation of how those sign-up are currently being segmented in BSD
(e.g., "mentor," trainee, etc.)

3) Numbers
Current numbers for each of those segments

Documented here:
https://etherpad.mozilla.org/Webmaker-email-segments
I'm going to talk to Amira aobut this today. This is quite tricky given that our naming convention is not standardized (for groups, files, segments; etc). Most of these were created before I joined, and there are dozens of BSD groups created by all kinds of people. But we'll give it a try! :)
* Thanks Andrea. Very much appreciated. And I know it's a dog's breakfast -- this is also me volunteering to see if we can streamline or clean some of that up together.
I talked to Amira today about this. I'm going to work with her on getting more specific segments tomorrow, but here is a quick query I made in BSD:
https://www.evernote.com/shard/s202/sh/1d004a6a-f634-4683-8be0-091ab3b20cc8/142f7bbb5c9f0f9239393c5c1a788cd0/deep/0/Search-for-people---create-mailing-list.png

For a preliminary check by your team. Does this total # look high or low? Remember, that count is the total # of people who have opted in to receive email (i.e. they checked the box upon signup).
Thanks, Andrea!

I couldn't tell from the image, but does your search also include "Mentor Signup Form"? That has 7212 uniques. There is also "super-mentor-signup" with 108 uniques.

These are core Webmaker contributors who've opted in to email from us about Webmaker and our web literacy offerings.
Here is an updated screenshot. The query is in the top box, I added the two form groups Michelle shared:

New total: 20,861
Does this look correct?
That squares with rough expectations I think, yes.

Andrea, THANK YOU for doing this. Michelle and I will review this data and file a new ticket for any next steps.
I did some further poking around and found some additional past sign-up pages that are relevant:

* Adam: this should give you a clearer picture and lay better groundwork for counting and metrics related to sign-ups
Thanks for organizing Matt. Since there's an abundance of past MP-esk lists I'm going to work on an email/communications strategy with Lainie to streamline those into the current ones.
This is completed now here:
