User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:31.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/31.0 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20140404030202

Steps to reproduce:

Go to about:preferences.
Change minimum font size to, say, 24.

Note: if using about:preferences to change the minimum font size, instead of the pop out window, browser.preferences.instantApply needs to be set to true.

Actual results:

As about:preferences uses only about half the screen width (is set at a fixed size from the left) rather than going all the way to the right, content is therefore cut-off, and a horizontal scrollbar is created for General, Content, Privacy, Sync, and Advanced.

Expected results:

For accessibility and usability, a small content width and horizontal scrollbars in about:preferences are problematic.

about:preferences should be more like about:addons in that the default width of the content area should be to use the full width of the screen (go all the way to the right).
Hi,

thanks for taking time to report this problem.

I tried to reproduce it, and I realized that with my version (see below) no matter the font-size specified in the about:preferences Content tab, the text in the "Content" tab is always cut off, and there's already in place an horizontal scroll bar (see screenshot).
It does happen in Safe mode and with a clean profile and I'm using Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:31.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/31.0 ID:20140406030203 CSet: 5fa70bd90a8b on Debian Sid, also occurring with a clean profile and in Safe Mode.
Also, in my case, the change of the font-size affects only the websites and not the browser UI: not sure if this is intended or not, but this is a difference between me and the first reporter.

Anyway, I can (partially) reproduce it.

Cheers,
Francesca

To clarify: bug 990973 will fix the scrollbars to appear in the right place, and ensure that the preferences take up all available space in the content area. If the font size is large enough, this might still result in truncation/scrollbar, but there's not too much we can do about that, and that shouldn't occur in any common cases.
