Steps to reproduce:
This behaviour occurs on nearly every program startup and sometimes even when it is open in the background. My feeling is that it especially (or exclusively) comes up while the spam filter is running and moving newly detected spam to the junk folder and - maybe - also while other filters are running and moving mails from inbox to other folders (IMAP).
Please find my configuration in the attached file for detailed information on my system.
Actual results:
The program freezes and it takes about 30 seconds until it unfreezes automatically.

1. Start *Windows'* safe mode with networking enabled
- win8 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode
Still In Windows safe mode, start thunderbird in safe mode
- http://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/safe-mode
Does problem go away?
- If no, then problem is either: bug in Thunderbird, in your Thunderbird profile, your mail provider. Please post into topic the contents of Help | Troubleshooting | copy text to clipboard
- If yes, (still in Windows safe mode) ... start Thunderbird normally
-- If problem is still gone, then cause is a program loaded during windows startup. Possibilities include: antivirus SW, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates
-- If problem is NOT gone, then cause is likely a Thunderbird addon - eliminate them by disabling each one at a time in Tools | addons | extensions and restarting

1. -> I will try that out during the next days. The problem is that I did not manage to send myself mails that Thunderbird detects as junk. Therefore I depend from receiving "real junk". But since that comes quite regularily I'm confident that I'll be able to give you feedback during the next days.
I already attached the help contents from troubleshooting to my first post but you find that again below.
2. -> This appears to happen since quite a long time (I think some month?!). I'm not sure whether it started to appear along with my update from Win7 to 8.1 or short time after that.
You'll hear from me soon.

Ok, sorry for coming back to this so late.
I did try it out some weeks ago but was not sure weather the amount of mails that TB had to process at this specific day was high enough. Therefore I had another try today with many mails. I started TB regulary in Windows safe mode and everything worked fine.
Next time when I have many mails I will try to disably the anti virus software before starting TB and see if that's the problem..

Ok, I had disabled the E-Mail-Scanner of AVG during the last days and again had the same problem when there were many junk mails that TB had to move. I'll try it again with completely disabled anti virus software when there will be many mails after the next weekend and provide an update.
