I didn't know how to label the summary but I'll explain it more...
There was/is a discussion over at the private Moderators forum (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/forums/forum-moderators/710058?last=58649) trying to prevent contributors from typing out the same information twice.
Gingerbread_Man made a new thread at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/forums/contributors/710157?last=58607 saying:
"On other forums, when you attempt to submit a post, you get a warning if a new post was made while you were typing. Not on this one. More than once I've ended up posting what was already said above one minute earlier...On a related note, other forums let you delete your own post if it's the last one in the thread."
I was wondering if there was a way to prevent this from happening?
Kensie suggested in the Mods thread:
"osTicket locks the thread if it's open in a tab, no typing in the field necessary. If someone wants to open 10 threads to "claim" them this shouldn't be a problem, the next person can claim the next 10 or however many they want. Moderators can watch for "locked" threads that are not having answers posted in them, or perhaps moderators can override the lock (though get warned about them).
I'm not sure how it's actually implemented, but it should work well. "

We have something similar for KB articles, might be useful here too. Madalina's call.
Component: Forum → Questions
I've went ahead and CC'd Madalina. I don't know if she is still overseas though. In the SUMO meeting, she said she was heading to the Pan-Indian meetup.
Madalina, does this sound like a useful feature in the forum and would it be feasible for SUMODev to implement it?

Yes, I think this really is needed.
Between the time I start typing a message and the time I submit it, it happens frequently enough that someone else has posted a reply. As a contributor, I'd like to be warned of this, so that I can either avoid posting what's already been said, or edit my post as necessary.
I can also see this being useful for everyone. In threads about hot topics, replies might be posted frequently. It would be useful for people having problems to know that a new reply has been posted that they're not aware of.
If there's already something similar for knowledge base articles, it doesn't seem like it would be all that difficult to do the same for the forum.

GBM:
It might be better to include live updates that show when you're typing so we won't be stupid to post the same thing. That would be a feature I would love to see implemented into the discussion forum/support forum. I should probably re-word the title to see if devs would put this on the backburner or try to push it into a sprint. Madalina is still on PTO I think so let's see when she gets back to us. I'll shoot her an e-mail as well.
Summary: Implement a way to prevent multiple posts on the forum (different contributors) → Push new posts to be published in real time while typing a new comment (discussion&support forum)

This sounds good to me. We might want to add this as a user story in the forum redesign project if it's too big.

I don't this matters to the discussion forum Bug 1094981 is currently tackling this. Let's track it there.

This is not quite the same as bug 1094981. That bug is about page load time information about questions being worked on, much like we do in the KB forum today. This bug is about live updating the forums page to show new content in real time.
Real time updates is an explicit non-goal of 1094981, so I think we should keep this open.
