There's no way, currently, to slide down the notification panel. It need to be.
We talked about this recently. I think it would work fine to have the vc in the status bar and then to a regular 2 finger swipe. Edge gestures would be nice, but not required to access the notifications drawer.

Status bar now supports wheel events to open the utility tray. For now to reach other open apps the user can use the home button so the edge gestures are redundant.
