Quoting Chris from <https://groups.google.com/d/msg/mozilla.governance/NWaEA-PUeUk/0d1M7DpFRfYJ>: The Mozilla blog should just remove its comment section. That the comment section exists but is (always) disabled causes confusion or people to shout "censorship!" every time there is a controversial blog post. I agree with him.
The blog settings defaulted all new posts to disable comments but allow pingbacks/trackbacks, hence the indication that replies are allowed but no actual comment form. When both comments and pings are disabled there's no indication of any ability to reply at all, effectively removing the entire section. I've changed the default settings to disable both comments and pings on new posts. It's still possible to enable them on an individual post if desired. I've also disabled pings on all the previously published posts, almost all of which still had pings open, as far back as 2009. Many of those older posts do have some legit trackbacks but there's a LOT of spam and I'm gradually working through deleting it all (I removed over 1200 spam pings last night with plenty more to go).
