Details

When inputting into an <input type=email> field, the middle row of characters in the US layout shifts to the left to accommodate the underscore character. This shifts the second row of keys to be directly underneath the top row, whereas normally it would be offset by about half a key. This layout makes it difficult to type an e-mail address correctly because it's hard to readjust your muscle memory to shift the second row of keys over. I believe this causes a higher rate of typos, which is a particular problem when typing e-mails -- every character counts and there is no autocorrect. Neither iOS nor Android[1] alter the QWERTY structure in such a fundamental way; both leave A-Z characters in their proper places even in the email input layout. No layout should alter the basic position of the A-Z keys; it makes it incredibly difficult to type accurately, and it's even more critical in fields where autocorrect can't help (like email).
