This meta-bug exists to collect all AVIF issues related to specification compliance.

Relevant specifications include:

• AV1 Image File Format (AVIF)
• AV1 Bitstream & Decoding Process Specification
• AV1 Codec ISO Media File Format Binding
• HEIF ISO/IEC 23008-12:2017 (free download)
• MIAF ISO/IEC 23000-22:2019 (purchase required, CHF 138 currently)
• ISO base media file format (BMFF) ISO/IEC 14496-12:2015 (purchase required, CHF 198 currently for updated 2020 version)

libavif is the reference implementation for parsing and writing. The equivalent class of issues can be found under the compliance label in the AOMediaCodec/libavif repo.

Gecko does not use libavif. Instead it depends on mp4parse-rust for parsing. The relevant issues can be found under the avif+compliance labels in the mozilla/mp4parse-rust repo.
