make it quite like play/pause button.
while we wait for page loading, we rarely reload it.
and when the page is already loaded, we don't (and can't) stop it.
combining those two buttons together to one 'trigger' button
(the function of the button changes by the page loading status)
will give more space to the toolbar
(and may gives that to that tiny search box).
and if anyone like to reload the page while it still loading,
just click the button twice (stop -> reload).
current buttons (5 statics):
[back] [forward] [reload] [stop] [home]
proposed buttons (3 statics, 1 dynamic):
[back] [forward] [stop] [home] (when page is currently loading)
[back] [forward] [reload] [home] (when page is already loaded)
Reproducible: Always

Sorry, this isn't going to happen. This would fall under the category of
confusing UI. This is not what people expect, and I'm not convinced that it's a
good idea.

After using Safari browser on Mac OS X for six months, I don't think this kind
of buttons layout (mixed Reload/Stop) confused me.

Isn't it rather confusing to have two buttons, when only one of them is actually
needed at the same time?

And regarding expectations... people did not expected the pages to load in tabs,
to "find as you type", to get yellow url bar when https page is loaded, and so
on. Thus I think, that expectation should not be considered at all. But I would
like to know the reasons why solving this bug is not a good idea.

Actually, I expected the stop/reload button to be unified when I tried Firefox. I used Mac before so perhaph that's why. Maybe I'm minority, but I think Apple introduced this for a reason.

Other web browsers that currently combine the stop and reload buttons include Opera, Safari, and IE7 beta. Firefox will be the only browser that doesn't use this so-called confusing UI. I really think this should be given more consideration. Please re-open.

I've posted the same request for feature and redirected here.
My mail was: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=343396
As I read this thread, I can see that some of us want the feature, while others do not.
In order to please both, I propose to make the smart button as an addition, not a
replacement of the existing ones, and leave to people the freedom to choose what
the like best.
Bob
PS. I tried to reopen this thread, but I got the following: "You tried to change the Status field from VERIFIED to REOPENED , but only the assignee or reporter of the bug, or a sufficiently empowered user may change that field." As I am not the owner of this thread, I am now trying to reopen my own.
