metabug for 0.8.5 related work

Adding bug 99612 as there's a patch and means I can set a different icon for the chatzilla window :) Important IMO
Blocks: 99612
I'm getting there :) I was going to add that bug sooner or later. For future reference, and for others who might be thinking of doing the same, please don't add bugs durectly to this one. If I havn't added it in a day or two, then speak up in the bug you'd like to nominate. 0.8.5 will contain all currently filed patches that work properly, and probably the strict mode fixes too. A few new ideas may crop up during the development. An XPI should be available on hacksrus sometime this weekend. I'll add a comment here when it happens.

0.8.5-pre1 is now available as an xpi at the hacksrus url mentioned in the URL field of this bug (the nasty focus issues have been resolved.) Not every bug that's marked as blocked by this one is fixed yet, but many are. I'll come up with a status whiteboard convention that says which bugs are fixed on the branch RSN. I've gone through the entire chatzilla bug list as of now and marked anything I think can be part of 0.8.5. If a bug you're interested in didn't make it then speak up in the bug in question (not here, please.) Patches are a Good Thing. Also, I've created a CHATZILLA_0_8_5_BRANCH in extensions/irc. I'll try to keep this branch at least as current as the XPI, if not more so.
The following URL will list all branch checkins, in case you're interested in that kind of thing. http://bonsai.mozilla.org/cvsquery.cgi?branch=CHATZILLA_0_8_5_BRANCH&branchtype=match&dir=mozilla%2Fextensions%2Firc%2F&date=all

Just a sidenote: I was wondering why you use <img width=0> and not <wbr>.

I'm gonna spend some time working on dox to make them current. Could anyone working on a CZ bug, who needs dox work make a comment on this bug: http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109116 thanks.

What bout bug 80125, adding a logging function to chatzilla? would be really neat :)
Problem is there's no patch for bug 80125 so it won't make it in this release. Speaking of which is this release gonna make it in time for 0.9.6?
no chance for 0.9.6, probably 0.9.7.
I am working on different charset support for Chatzilla (looks like Chatzilla is the only one unicode irc client ;-) to make it play nice with other clients. This is about bug <a href="http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=41564">41564</a>. I am almost done, but I need to bring that common charset menu used in Navigator, Composer and Messenger to Chatzilla.
I'd love to see the Faces feature get into email and aim clients ; it could be added by a tooltip-shows-face-when-nick-or-sender-hovered mean. Even Chatzilla should be able to present a Face like this. You'll probably need to make a global repository somewhere and you might want to consider the Faces Archive directory structure : for instance, the Face for me should be in com/netscape/glazman.png. See Jeff Poskanzer's archives. This allows a com/netscape/unknown.png which is usually the company's icon of country's flag (eg fr/unknown.png).
re comment #11. i'm pretty sure ms comic chat supports unicode. and i'm pretty sure most people don't like ms comic chat.
looks like i am to lazy to bring normal menus with charset selection, but anyway... this is core and it works ;-) if anyone would handle menus for me - i will be happy.

Here is the diff representing the first candidate for 0.8.5 "final". You should be able to generate this yourself by updating to the trunk, and merging with the branch via `cvs up -jCHATZILLA_0_8_5_BRANCH`. chatzilla.xul and readprefs.js conflict, just copy them over from the branch. I took care of the conflict resolution over there. This code is available at hacksrus as 0.8.5-pre23. Providing pre23 doesn't have any big problems, I'll land this stuff next week after updating the changelog. We need as much testing as possible before 0.9.7 ships, so the sooner we land, the better. 4 new files in this patch, scripts.xul, popups.xul, menus.xul, and tasks-irc.gif. I'll have to remember to cvs add these before checking in. The gif isn't included in the diff for obvious reasons, the others are there. I'll have to remember to cvs add this -kb.
Here is my 0.8.5 plan... 1. the 0.8.5 branch will be retired. No more check-ins will happen here. the branch will be kept for its CVS history. 2. work will move to the trunk as soon as I get an a=. When the branch lands, all bugs currently dependent on this bug will be marked fixed. 3. the version number will be 0.8.5-rc1, where rc indicates "release candidate" 4. regressions will be caught and fixed before mozilla 0.9.7. Each checkin will increase the rc number. 5. revision number will change 0.8.5, no suffix, when we are confident there are no major regressions, but no later than mozilla 0.9.7. Any regressions should have bugs filed, and should depend on this bug so they are easy to find. Brendan, the ChatZilla 0.8.5-pre series has been around for almost two months now, available as an installable XPI. It has been tested by more than a handful of moznet users, and does not introduce any significant regressions. I'm seeking your rs= (or a=) to land on the trunk, in order that we might get wider testing before mozilla 0.9.7.
rs=brendan@mozilla.org on any of this, just don't break anything in the default builds! /be
