fixed. to test it, select a newsgroup server in the folder pane, "File | Subscribe..." it will bring up a simple subscribe dialog. enter the newsgroup name. in the html select object, choose a server to get this newsgroup from. I've checked in javascript that pre-selects the select object for you, but you still have to do it. (there's a bug on this already, alecf what was the bug #?) jefft: "New Folder" and "Subscribe..." share a lot of the same code, so when you do "New Folder", it will automatically choose the server you selected in the folder pane, when the "New Folder" dialog comes up. I also added code to no through an exception when you hit "New Folder" or "Subscribe.." and nothing is selected. the next step is to use <rule> in the template so that when you bring up the "Subscribe.." dialog, only nntp servers show up, and when you bring up the "New Folder" dialog nntp server don't show up. marking fixed. hit ok.

this sounds a little like the "zombie" dialog problem. new folder was having it too, as was the account wizard. let me take a look....
Karen - as a fyi, the "zombie" dlg problem Seth refers to is http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14396 although I thought it was only on the Mac. Karen - are you able to go back to the main mail window (while the Subscribe dlg remains on the screen)?

I take back the zombie comment. it sounds like the problem where you can't dismiss the window unless you pick a server in the html option wizard. (even though one is pre-selected for you, you have to pick it again.) try that, and ok should work. if that's it, we should up the priority of that bug. alecf, which bug is that?

Oh! Is THAT why my windows don't go away sometimes. I didn't know that happened, so I didn't know about this bug. Good to know though. i'm guessing this dialog should be modal anyway, so karen shouldn't be able to do anything in the messenger window.

1) Yes, I am able to go back the main window while Subscribe dlg remains on the screen, I also can select any thing from the mail main window. 2) I still cannot active the Subscribe dlg even I select the same news server again. 3) Yes! You are right!!

this bug is fixed. well, at least there is a work around. there are 4 or 5 bugs on this dialog (they apply to "New Folder...") and I'm going to log them now.
