From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.0; Mac_PowerPC) BuildID: 2001112112 This could be a case of RTFM, but in Mac OS 9.1 running Mozilla 0.9.6, whenever I type in a URL in the path field, the browser never loads the URL even when i hit enter or return. It only works if i highlight and drag the url into the content area or click on the "go" button. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.type in url 2.hit return or enter 3.watch nothing happen Actual Results: as described above Expected Results: load the URK
what keyboard model and are you using USEnglish? does enter work in other edit boxes or form submission edit boxes?

I have encountered this as well, using Mac/2001112011 (0.9.6), but only intermittently.
Confirmed using Fizzilla/2001112020 (0.9.6) on Mac OS X 10.1.1. Open a Navigator window, access a URL, switch to another app, switch back to Mozilla, click once on the URI field text to hilight it, type a new URI (observe that the autocomplete pop-up doesn't appear), and finally hit return or enter and observe that either keypress has no effect.

From: "Kevin G. Eng" <kge3@columbia.edu> To: <bugzilla-daemon@mozilla.org> , <timeless@bemail.org> I am using a 1999 Apple Powerbook G3 333mhz laptop. Standard USEnglish Keyboard. I didnt encounter this problem with earlier builds, though. enter works with all other edit boxes and submission field form elements. reporter: in the future, instead of replying to bugmails (which is silly), please click on the url included at the top and add your comment into the form.

I experience the same problem on my PowerBook as well. However, the same problem does not reveal on another PowerMac.
This has got to be an editor bug

I don't understand how this can be an editor problem. It's either a Mac-specific widget problem or it's a focus problem. Bug reporter: did it ever work correctly on your portable? If so, do you know approximately when it broke? My leaning is a Mac widget bug since it's not cross-platform (but it could be either way). Is this a duplicate? Kin--reassign to me or one of the other Mac people if you want.
as with all of these bugs, the more info. the better on OSes, machines, and ways to reproduce it.

>did it ever work correctly on your portable? If so, do you know approximately when it broke? It worked up until a 0.9.x build. and then it no longer worked. I can try to find my old installers and see where they broke. What systems configs (hardware/OS) are you guys running? Is this just on portables or is anyone seeing it on desktops, too?
I run everyday on a PowerBook G3 500 everyday and don't see this.
Desktop G4, Mac OS 9.2.1.
It happens on Mozilla 0.96 running on OS X10.1.1 PowerBook G4/677. I don't know what triggers this problem. However, it never responds to the return or enter key on url. All the other fields or web page works. It was fine while 0.95.
as an aside, we also have verified chatzilla problems with the return/enter key with the 096 release bits. Daily builds do not exhibit this problem so the bug was closed. I wonder if there's just something wrong with the 096 branch in particular. kevin (or anyone), can you try a daily trunk release build and see if you still have the problems?
downloading the newest nightly right now. i just tried 0.9.4 and it didnt work either. But i still need to test it more thoroughly (i.e. boot with clean extension set, etc).
unfortunately, even the nightly build, Mac OS X 0.97+, still showing the bug! the return and enter key do NOT work on url!
folks, when you comment, please say what OS you are running, what language pack, what keyboard configuration, as well as your exact hardware so we can track this down. "mee too" doesn't get us very far. thanks! ;)
build 2001121908 (12-19-01) still the same... 8.6 imac 266.. it still doesn't work.. always reproduceable i trashed all prefs and still won't work right anything i can do to help email me cause i want this fixed because mozilla is the fastest browser and would be so much more convinent to just hit enter. macbuddy3@mac.com
