Reproducable: always. Steps to reproduce: 1. Import the attached file into the Bookmarks. 2. Move the mouse over the Bookmarks drop-down tree, so Moz will try to show the bookmarks sub-menu created from the imported file. 3. It hangs. ALL windows, even those unrelated to this bookmark operation. Additional comments. The conditions needed in order to hang Mozilla are: -- There must be a special character in the bookmark name. Copyright symbol (R) _as_a_single_character_ do it, looks that some another special characters as well. -- That happens ONLY with the bokmarks exported from the previous versions of Mozilla. Boookmarks, re-created from the same sites in the Moz 0.9.8 work just fine. -- That happens ONLY in the submenus of the Bookmarks drop-down menu. "Manage Bookmarks" window show the same bookmarks just fine. It seems to be related to the outliner bug 116845.
This is an exception from my Bookmarks.html file inherited from the older Mozilla. New bookmarls created in the Moz 0.9.8 from the same sites work OK.

-> bookmarks (there is no tree involved, if we're talking about the bookmarks menu/submenu in the browser window). Thanks for the excellent description and testcase. Unfortunately, I can't reproduce this in a mozilla build, pulled 2am last night. What is the build ID of the build where you can reproduce this? When I import that bookmarks file, I get no descriptive text for those bookmarks, but the bookmarks are added to the menu, and I don't hang.

Works for me with the latest build: 2002030908. The old 0.9.8 build (2002020406) still hangs. So it's not the installation process that cured it, but the bug, fixed recently. Thanks ! FWIW: I have both the last nighty (2002030908) and the last release (2002020406) software in the separate directories under mozilla.org. However, they both share the same configuration directory (under C:\winnt\profiles) and, of course, the same set of configuration files.

Build OS/2 2002051716 branch. Activity meter flatline was while system was unresponsive immediately after expanding a bookmark submenu via a LMB click rather than waiting for auto-expansion. user.js contains user_pref("ui.submenuDelay", 1000);. To get rid of the expansion remnant I had to return to Mozilla and click several things, then open bookmarks again. Bookmark file was a Netscape 3 file copied to profile directory and first opened by trunk 2002051709.
Works for me with Moz 1.1 releaze. Mark it fixed.
