Allow ".a" extension on plugins for AIX

The Java plugin for AIX uses a ".a" extension, instead of the ".so" extension
used on other unix platforms. The change for Bug 97362 broke the loading of the
Java plugin under AIX.

this is known problem, I'm resolving this as a dup of bug 106806,
the patch in that bug report attachment 67096 [details] [diff] [review] also addresses this problem.
