13654 - investigate news header downloading, it's slower than hell.

downloading news headers from the server is SLOW.
slower than it should be.  I've got a couple ideas on how to speed it up.
this is a place holder bug to remind me to get back to it.

Bulk add of "perf" to new keyword field.  This will replace the [PERF] we were
using in the Status Summary field.

n.p.m.general takes 1 1/2 minutes to load for me.  Seth, can you speed this up a
little bit for beta, maybe add some rudimentary progress indication so it
doesn't look like Mozilla crashed?

zach, there is progress for downloading messages.

are referring to the lack of progress when opening a large newsgroup?

by that I mean say you download 10,000 articles, it will take a long time
after downloading for the ui to become responsive and there is no progress
indication.  eventually the ui will respond.

if you exit, and come back and select the same newsgroup, it will take a long
time again.

putterman, do you know which performance bugs relate to this?

thread pane performance bugs.

marking WORKSFORME.  If you go to www.mozilla.org/mailnews/perf and look at news
header downloading you'll see that it's faster than 4.x.  Also, we will look
into folder loading and sort performance in general which should help this out
as well.  We aren't going to look at news specific header downloading.
