This is a spinoff from bug 138254. I will investigate if it is possible to move the patch from that bug to other ftp commands, because current implementation has problems when login-point and what PWD reports are different.
I think this will not work with the others commands. A special thing with STOR seems to be that we never change the directory, we always stay at the login point, thus doing what we do with the patch from bug 138254 works. But when we navigate a tree with ftp commands we do change the current directory and we do not cut the connection, so the frame of reference between two URLs changes. Doing what we do with the patch from bug 138254 would result in failures navigating the tree With the PWD command we try to build an absolute frame of reference to resolve this problem. It works as long as the PWD command returns the right thing.
so, it sounds like the follow condition will cause an upload failure: browser to ftp://ftp.example.com/pub/foo/a then upload to ftp://ftp.example.com/home/dougt
This might depend on if we open an extra connection and login again for the second ftp. Then all would be okay, otherwise we would try to upload to /pub/foo/a/home/dougt.
At this point, only composer could get into this situation, right?
I'm not sure but maybe we can get into this situation with two browsers? Also, the browser is capable of uploading also (it lacks a UI though).
Just a test ... sorry for the spam ...
