Most of these bugs are dups of 103843, "New windows created by javascript and html should appear as tabs". One dup of this bug mentioned that Ctrl+N should open a new tab instead of a new window, which is bug 105620. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 103843 ***

I don't see how this is a dupe of a JS bug. This specifically says *all* windows. If I have a Mozilla window open, and I go to start -> run -> mozilla http://msn.com/, I want it to open in a new tab if Moz is already running. As it is, it opens a new window. Some programs use this method for launching urls, such as mIRC. Also, (this may be a different issue, I'm not sure exactly) if I click a link in ICQ or Outlook, I don't want the link to open in the active tab, but a new tab. Neither of those are JavaScript, so I do not see this as a duplicate.
well this isn't really the way most people would want it. it isn't granular enough for real users. the breakdown most people seem to want is at least an option for what to do with links from external programs and an option for new panes from webpages. if you prefer we can reopen and resolve wontfix.
Why wontfix? Wouldn't adding an option make it fixed?
that would be two options, neither of which would be the nonsensical 'open all windows in tabs'
An option to make links from external programs open in new tabs in existing windows is bug 121969.
I disagree that this is a duplicate of any of the previous bugs. The other bugs seem to address particular situations, but still leave the possibility that more than one browser window will be opened. Many of us only ever want a single window open, otherwise they clutter our desktop. Until this option is available, Mozilla will never completely replace Opera on my desktop.
What other ways of opening windows do you want the option to disable? If you're asking for an option to remove "Open Link in New Window" from the context menu, feel free to file a new bug, but it will probably get wontfixed like bug 124973 (Disabling "Tabbed Browsing" should be available and removes option from context menu).
