When I print a page with German characters to a file or a Postscript printer
(e.g. from the URL above), these characters are partly overlayed by the next
character. When printing the above, this is visible for instance in the word
"TÜV" at the end of the bold first paragraph.
This has been a problem since several versions and is stil present in 1.0-RC2,
but strangely I did not find any bugs on this...

At least it shows correctly in a PS file viewer (gv, ggv), while mine does not.
Did you also use Linux (or Unix) to create that file? What is Xprint?

Solaris, but Linux/HP-UX/*BSD etc. etc will work, too (except you use Linux
RPM-based builds, read http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=133534#c6).
Details how to install/use Xprint are available under http://xprint.mozdev.org/
or http://puck.informatik.med.uni-giessen.de/people/gisburn/work/xprint/ (for
the impatient: Read one of the quickguides :)

The FAQ has an answer for this:

I just found this bug. In 1.6 release on Linux this problem still exists.

The printing code that was in use when this bug was filed has all been removed, and this doesn't seem to be reproduceable with the new cairo-based printing code. Resolving fixed. Please open a new bug if this can be reproduced with a current trunk build.
