From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.0.0) Gecko/20020530
BuildID: 2002053012
Even using following command line for shortcut in Startup Folder, Moz insists on
opening browser window. Prefs are set correctly (see attachment).
Command line ignored is:
"C:\Program Files\Mozilla.Org\Mozilla\mozilla.exe" -mail
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create shortcut in Win 2000 Startup folder
2. Set command line to "C:\Program Files\Mozilla.Org\Mozilla\mozilla.exe" -mail
3. Set Appearance options to open Mail window ONLY.
4. Restart
Actual Results: Both Mail window and Broswer windows will open.
Expected Results: Mail window opens. None other.
The following prefs are correctly set and the browser,false pref is ignored when
Mozilla is started from within the Startup folder on boot:
user_pref("general.startup.browser", false);
user_pref("general.startup.mail", true);
Summary: Moz insists on opening browser window when prefs say otherwise → Starting Moz from within Startup folder forces browser open regareless of pref setting

either using the -mail switch or setting the prefs (or doing both), produce only
a mail window for me, using 1.2beta on win2k.
reporter (Steve): can you reproduce this problem with a recent build of mozilla?
if so, please comment again with details. if not, please resolve this as
WORKSFORME. thanks.
Reporter test: QuickLaunch icon loaded into task bar but program did not start
at all when shortcut was copied to startup menu. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U;
Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.2a) Gecko/20020910 (2002091014).
OK. Here's reporter's update from comment #6, which was tested via a warm boot.
Using a cold boot instead, Moz *did* load, but did not load properly. First it
loaded a completely blank Navigator page, then the Mail/News page, then a second
completely blank Navigator page. All it should have done is load the Mail/News
page only. 2002091014.
Under Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.2b) Gecko/2002101612,
on startup Moz opens a blank browser window w/ empty URL bar, then a mail
window, then a browser window at the home page.

Steve, I think the appearance prefs don't matter, they are overridden when using
a command line switch.
If your command line is
"C:\Program Files\Mozilla.Org\Mozilla\mozilla.exe" -mail
maybe you should try omitting the " signs or include the -mail switch into them.
Does this commandline work when entering at the command prompt?
This works for me, at least for shortcuts.

I have not started Moz from within the startup folder since shortly after
reporting this bug, and have upgraded several times since then. A little testing
by the QA folks might be in order to confirm all is well, but I don't know if
there is anything significant here. Would rather see attention elsewhere, like
fixing the addressbook issues.
