If you've got a dark theme set, Firefox paints the whole window white on new-tab before flipping back to the dark-theme background. For new-tab stuff under our control, it would be nice if we could select a background color from the theme for first-paint if that's feasible, in a nod to perceived performance.

More generally, I have a bug on file - bug 1398826 - that proposes caching a site's background color and painting that instead of #FFF on first pass, which may be related.
