From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.0.0) Gecko/20020529 BuildID: 2002052918 Once a web page is added to the bookmarks, it cannot be edited (not to change the name, location, or comments). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Bookmark an html file. 2.Select "Manage bookmarks" from the Bookmarks menu 3.Select a bookmarked web page. 4.No way to edit the entry Actual Results: Nothing. Expected Results: Either a menu choice allowing editing of bookmark entry should exist, or clicking on the entry should allow editing from the bookmark window.
WorksForMe using FizzillaCFM/2002061014. James, to edit a bookmark, select the bookmark, then either click "Properties..." on the toolbar, choose "Edit/Properties..." from the system menu bar, or choose "Properties" from the contextual menu. Let us know if that works for you.
WorksForME aswell, using Mozilla 2002061308 on Mac OS 10.1.5. The suggestions made in Comment #1 work as expected.
On further investigation not all of my bookmark entries are uneditable/undeleteable. They aren't limited to local pages or remote pages. The local pages have been resolved. It was an (automatic) import issue from IE. The problem bookmarks are still a mystery. One of them is a link to my departmental web server. I can go to the link from a bookmarked entry no problem, but I can't do anything with it. Editing the bookmarks file will remove it, but adding it via the "Add To Bookmarks" menu option brings it back as uneditable. Is there some other file that contains information about the bookmarks that needs to be edited?
James, try the same procedure with a new Mozilla user profile; create the profile, and add the bookmark. See if you can edit it then. (Maybe your profile has become corrupt somehow; this will help determine that.)
Creating a new profile and bookmarking one of the links I was unable to modify or delete worked. When I imported the bookmark file from the old profile, the preoblem reappeared. I then performed the divide and conquer method and discovered the bad entry in the bookmarks file. It was: <DT><A HREF="NC:IEFavoritesRoot" LAST_MODIFIED="1024022819">Imported IE Favorites</A> As you can see, it is a combination of a web link and a folder. I don't know just when the bookmarked links in Mozilla became uneditable, but it was probably when the second instance of the "Imported IE Favorites" folder appeared. I can't tell you steps that lead up to that. The curious thing was that I could delete the bad entry from the "Manage Bookmarks" screen, but that didn't eliminate the problem. Only removing the corrupt line before inputing the old bookmarks file worked. I apologise for not being able to provide more of the details, but I have had my hands full with upgrading this old machine to OS X. (A Wallstreet PowerBook - the bare minimum hardware requirements). I also played around with different applications in order to find OS X versions that was as close to the System 9 counterparts. In all, it looks like the code for importing bookmarks is a bit more sensitive to syntax than the browser display code is (the browser would ignore the bad HTML tag).
I see this problem to with 2002062504-trunk Win98. Can't edit|rename|delete bookmarks. I tried to use the bookmarks from my 1.0 profile => same results: they work under 1.0, with the trunk-build bookmarks are not editable. Also the trunk-bookmarks work with Mozilla 1.0.
I made some further tests with 2002062508-trunk Win98: 1. new profile => default bookmarks are editable 2. copied my trunk-bookmarks => bookmarks uneditable 3. deleted trunk-bookmarks, started Mozilla (creates new default bookmarks) => these bookmarks are again not editable BTW: I don't have this 'bad' entry (<DT><A HREF="NC:IEFavoritesRoot" LAST_MODIFIED="1024022819">Imported IE Favorites</A>) in my bookmarks.
I found that once the bookmark file became corrupted (uneditable entries), the only solution was to create a new profile. Importing the old bookmarks in a bit at a time can determine the bad entries.
Just to be sure, none of you guys are trying to edit the "Imported IE Favorites," right?
I see this problem with build 2002070504 under Win98SE. Changing bug to New, although it may be marked a dup of Bug #153828

Ever confirmed: true
On 1.2a (2002072104) I have no bookmark functionality at all except to add bookmarks. Seems to be a severe lack of programmer resources because bookmarks worked pretty much OK on 1.0 but its almost as if bookmark functionality has not been tested for any release since then.

I can't repro this on 1.1.4 with Mac OS 10.4.10. Has probably been fixed for years, closing as wfm.
