From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; WinNT4.0; en-US; rv:1.1a+) Gecko/20020624 BuildID: 2002062408 the java? javascript? images at the left slow mozilla and the system massively until loaded. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. load this web page 2. 3. this also happened on mozilla 1.1alpha, have not tried earlier versions since 1.1 worked fine for most everything i did.

Browser, not engine ---> OJI for further triage. Not sure who is responsible for the loading time of applets, but it's not JS Engine. This page loads nearly 20 applets of type fphover.class on the left side of the page. On my box (WinNT 4.0(SP6) 500MHz CPU; 128M RAM), my CPU is at 100% for only about 1 second. I am connecting over a T1 line. At this speed I would say this is WORKSFORME. Geoff: could you give us the parameters of your machine and your connection speed? How long is your CPU pinned while loading the site?

Geoff: also, if possible: 1. What version of IE do you have (if any), and how long does it take to load the site on the same machine? 2. What Java plug-in are you using in Mozilla? (In Mozilla, do Help > About Plug-ins)

To answer your questions: 1. I am experiencing this on both of the systems I use. system 1: win NT, PIII, 800mhz, 128M RAM; system 2: xp home, P4, 1.4ghz, 384M RAM; cable connection speed (300kbps) on both; both recently upgraded to java 1.4.0_01. I had not come to this site before so don't know how it behaved with earlier java versions. 2. in IE6 the site loads fine if the mouse is over the applet that is loading. It seems a little slow if the mouse is not over the applet button. However, there are NO performance problems with IE. 3. In mozilla on the P4 machine (build 2002061104) mozilla.exe pegs the CPUs (95-99%) for approximately 20 to 45 seconds with alot of 'kernel time'. It seemed about the same on the NT machine. Same is true as you go a few pages into the site. Let me know what else you need.

In addition. There are no problems experienced with redhat linux 7.3. i tried mozilla1.0.0 and mozilla 1.1a 2002061108 with java 1.4.0_01 and the site loads fine.

I am using build 2002061104 on Windows 2000 with the J2RE 1.4.0. I am on a DS3 to the public internet. The site pegged my CPU at 100% for 55 seconds (99% by mozilla.exe). Two to four of the image applets don't load and they generate this error listing: load: class fphover.class not found. java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: fphover.class at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.findClass(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin.security.PluginClassLoader.findClass(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.loadCode(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletPanel.createApplet(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin.AppletViewer.createApplet(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletPanel.runLoader(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletPanel.run(Unknown Source) at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source) Caused by: java.io.IOException: open HTTP connection failed. at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.getBytes(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.access$100(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader$1.run(Unknown Source) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) ... 11 more [Above listed several times; once for each object that didn't load completely.] I am using a Squid proxy server which is practically idle. I experience a similar problem on dialup and without using the proxy server. Going to About:Plugins and then going Back to the page resulted in the same delay. I have also seen this at other sites that have a lot of applets on the page. Anyhow, this is probably a dup. of Bug 57372.

wfm using build 2002070508 on Win2k (trunk) + JRE 1.4.1 beta.

I tried it with JRE 1.4.1 beta (still with build 2002061104) and, although it works better if the applet is in the Java cache, it still causes pauses. In fact, with 1.4.1B the browser actually hung and I needed to kill it. Other times it loaded the page in less than five seconds (much better than I was experiencing before).

Still experience the problem using 1.4.0_1 and mozilla2002072104 on winxp. However, problem does not exist with 1.3.1_04.

www.geoprobe.com still causes big problems. menus on left side of screen in the site eventually peg cpu after a few clicks and make machine unresponsive. Waited at least a minute before having to logout through task manager. Tried several times. re-installed mozilla to test. Confirmed: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.5a) Gecko/20030604 Java(TM) Plug-in: Version 1.4.1_02 P4 2.4GHz, 512MB RAM, DSL 1.5Mbps First page loads fast but if you start drilling down page links in rapid succession it bogs down horribly. Java system tray applet also stalls. Doesn't happen in IE6.

Tried mozilla 1.4rc2 and still locks up program. With Java 1.4.1 locks up quickly as before. With Java 1.4.2b seems to be somewhat improved, but still will lock up. Try clicking on the links on the left side a little faster, and will crash. ex. accessories.
