Hondacars.com uses browser detection which blocks and does not recognize Mozilla 1.0 and 1.1b. It does, however, let NS7 in. What part of "gecko" don't they understand?

seems they only look for the string "netscape" is it fully functional with ns7 or maybe even ns 6 ? then http://www.hondacars.com/js/windowmanager.js just needs a netscape || mozilla addition, even getelementbyid was planned in there
http://www.hondacars.com/js/utility_functions.js looks to me where all the magic happens. their function UFcheckBrowser checks on dom (getElementById), .images, .layers, .all, but i don't see the actual function which checks and redirects based on that. Yeah, they're checking for "netscape" not "gecko" (or mozilla). Maybe they've got some server-side stuff in there too, which of course we just don't know about. Either way, adding "gecko" to their NS test is the way to go.

There is server side code, Mozilla is sent to the "Upgrade" page even if Javascript is completely disabled, and so is Lynx which doesn't even have JS. They need the "Why Gecko instead of Netscape?" public service announcement.
Me too, I sent e-mail to webmaster@hondacars.com. Where is the "Why Gecko instead of Netscape?" public service announcement URL? I wandered around Mozilla release notes and Mozilla Evangelism site and couldn't find it to put in my message.
All, Thank you for your interest in this bug, and contacting webmasters before I could get around to it (it is assigned to me, but I've been really slow off the mark, because of other responsibilities). Here are the "public service" type articles that S. Page suggests we need: * http://devedge.netscape.com/viewsource/2002/browser-detection/ mentions the Browser Detection problem and attempts to do so from within a mostly client JS type framework. * http://devedge.netscape.com/viewsource/2001/find-gecko/ does the same thing (and is sort of deprecated, but...) but allows for the world of server-side sniffs. Thanks again -- do feel free to send any http://devedge.netscape.com resources out to recalcitrant web developers and web masters!
Arun: If it helps, tell them I just bought a Civic Hybrid 2003, and I was really happy until now. Any other Honda owners out there?
over to susie They are also blocking any embedding client that uses gecko, such as compuserve 7 and probably aol mac osx.

Add my vote here for blocking Chimera. I was looking at info on the Civic Hybrid so I could consider it for purchase. Guess not :(
The site now loads in Mozilla. There is a warning, but in fact if parts of the site are incompatible, it makes sense to have the warning. Verified you can read all about the Civic Hybrid, pick colors etc :-) Marking fixed.

This site is now broken again (Jan. 18). I'm using Moz. 1.2.1 and they redirect me to a page suggesting I download the latest IE or NS.
Broken in Netscape 7.01 also. reopening.

Earlier today, hondacars.com was blocking both Mozilla and Opera 7. Now it lets them both in. Strange...
Nice! I see no warning popup anymore either. Maybe it was a regression. Marking wfm.

Just an update: If you do not allow cookies from www.hondacars.com you also get the same "unsupported browser" error page. If someone has an "in" with honda's webmaster they might suggest a more useful error message.
