Worksforme on oct01 commercial trunk... I see with current trunk it's been moved
from main panel to "Windows" panel under mail/news.

Changing mail window layout has (I believe) always required a restart to work
right, there used to be text indicating so.  Will double-check that requirement,
but the alternate layout WFM.

Nevermind, there is still text with the pref that does indicate the change would
take effect after restart.
What build are you using?

My version has the text message telling the user that you must restart mail
before the change occurs.

I did the restart of both mail and navigator and it doesn't matter.  The second
choice for "Select windows layout you prefer for mail" doesn't work as exampled,
and instead displays garbage in the left side window view for Inbox, Send,
Trash, etc.

Gary Davidson, are you still experiencing this problem?  Have you tried a more 
recent version of Mozilla (1.3 or 1.4b)?  This preference works for me, and has, 
in 1.3 and 1.4 -- I never tried it with an earlier build.  (Please respond by 
posting in the bug, not by email.)

The text that mail must be restarted to see the change has been removed.

I was asked to test this problem in a more recent version of Mozilla.  With
Mozilla 1.3.1, the second choice for Preferences > Mail > Windows "Select the
window layout you prefer for mail" now works fine.  Note, that if you first see
strange symbols and/or numbers in the new window where it should display Inbox,
Sent, Trash, etc., stretch the width of that window until all information
appears and then customize the content to your personal preferences.

specific to the bug.
