Using jan 6 commercial trunk
If you set the thread pane view to All or Unread via the View|Messages menu
item, the new "mailviews" dropdown will not be in sync with the real setting. I
know we haven't ironed out all the menus and views settings yet, but this one
bit me a couple times so far...
Steps:
1. Open a folder, view is already set to view All Messages (both the
View|Messages menu and the mailviews dropdown show All, and indeed all messages
appear).
2. Set the view to Unread via the menu item View|Messages|Unread. Notice the
thread pane changes to show only unread items, however the mailviews dropdown
still shows the All view selected. (vice versa if in Unread view and set to All
via menu)
Keywords: nsbeta1
Summary: [mailviews] dropdown out of sync if view set in View|Messages → [mailviews] dropdown out of sync if view set in View|Messages
Views selected from the View: Messages Menu and the View dropdown should match.
Selecting "Unread" (or similar) from the View: Message Menu should result in the
View dropdown displaying "Unread" as well. Switching the View dropdown to "All"
should switch the View: Messages Menu to "All" as well.
Problem: The View: Messages menu is currently a combo of Views specific to
Threaded mode And specific to Non-threaded mode.
I recommend that the existing View: Messages menu be broken into two, those
specific to the new Message Views feature and those specific to Threads.

Is this bug still relevant?
The View/Messages menuitems are now disabled for quick search or custom view.

I think what we have might be out of sync with the spec.

It was always out of sync with the spec :-P
View/Message views are threaded views with special unread/ignored behaviour.
The View dropdown does an unthreaded quicksearch.

to elaborate on why this is fixed:
now, if you switch threaded views (used to be View | Messages menu, but is now
View | Threads), we'll set the view picker (and the selected item in the View |
Messages menu) to be "all").
that change is part of bug #189543
Using trunk build 20030516 on winxp, macosx and linux this is fixed. The menu
item View|Messages is synced with the View picker in the thread pane. As noted
by Seth, if the user Selects View|Threads options, the View picker in thread
pane changes to All.
